Contributing to society: our projects in 2020

Published on: Category: News

Societal involvement is important to Qualogy Caribbean. In a previous article, I talked about our activities in 2019. In 2020, we continued to set aside time and a budget to get involved with those in need. Curious about our initiatives this year? I will happily tell you more about them.

Health

Or course, 2020 was an eventful year in every aspect. Despite all the measures, we have not been idle when it comes to charities and social projects. We were pleased to contribute to projects in Suriname for people with autism, dyslexia and diabetes, for example.

Later in the year, we got in touch with a fantastic project of Innerwheel Paramaribo. With their heart pillow project, the foundation gives women who have undergone breast cancer surgery a special pillow as moral support. With our donation, the team at Innerwheel Paramaribo was able to make about 400 heart pillows. Read more about the project here.

Sport and recreation

In addition, we made the youth of Nickerie happy with a table tennis table for the local table tennis club. It was very nice to see their enthusiastic reactions.

Education

We put our time and energy into education in the past year. Starting with our contribution to the GO GLO project, organized by the Rotary Club of Paramaribo Residence. The best graduates of the primary school (Gewoon Lager Onderwijs) were honored on September 10. And as we do every year, we also sponsored the Student Excellence Awards for high school students. Two students received a tablet from us.

We also surprised as many as 200 children from various children’s homes and schools with a comprehensive school package in 2020. We involved our staff to identify the most vulnerable in society in their own environment and personally hand over the school package. Another amazing project: our contribution to the RUMAS foundation. The RUMAS Foundation offers new perspectives to school dropouts and young people with various problems. One of their projects is the Vergina House Rebuilding project, in which young people renovate an old people’s home. Read more about the project here.

Finally, we proudly sponsored the STEM Kits projects, an initiative of Het Surinaams Knutselhoekje. The objective of this non-profit organization is to introduce Surinamese children aged 3 to 13 to the subjects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. An amazing goal that we as an IT organization wholeheartedly support!

Invaluable appreciation

When I look back at everything we organized this year, I’m very proud. Corporate responsibility is and will remain an important theme for Qualogy Caribbean. My colleagues and I enjoy helping others. The appreciation you get in return is invaluable. It also results in more job satisfaction: colleagues enjoy contributing to societal projects.

2021: what’s next?

Unfortunately, some events couldn’t take place due to the COVID situation. We had been looking forward to the annual Qualogy City Rally and the Men’s Cookout, but alas. Hopefully, we will get another chance this year! Besides, we have some wonderful initiatives planned for 2021 as well.  You will hear more about these soon.
