Colleague Ralph Badloe is a Certified Ethical Hacker

Published on: Category: News

Ralph Badloe has worked at Qualogy Caribbean since 2018. First on his graduation thesis. He researched and evaluated the automation and maturity level of security of Surinamese companies. Afterwards, he went to work at Qualogy Caribbean as an IT Security Officer right away. To expand his skills, Ralph obtained the Certified Ethical Hacker certification. He would love to tell you more.

Ethical hacking: locating errors and vulnerabilities in IT-systems, networks, servers, and clients’ applications. To do this, penetration tests or pentests are used. Using these, the ethical hacker tests the IT environment for vulnerabilities, then actually hacks into the system. But how do you become an ethical hacker?

Why ethical hacking?

Ralph: “I wanted to make my cyber security knowledge official. Qualogy Caribbean offered me the opportunity to obtain this certificate. With support during the entire process. The CEH certificate is highly regarded. To participate, you need two years of verifiable work experience in the field of cyber security. If this is not the case, the EC-Council offers you course material. I set to work straight away.”

Theory and practice

The certification consists of a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part lasts 4 hours, and the practical part 6 hours. Ralph says: “The theoretical examination consists of 125 questions. These questions test your knowledge about the 5 phases of pentesting: reconnaissance, gaining access, enumeration, maintaining access and covering your tracks. The practical part tests the same subjects. There are 20 assignments in virtual environments that simulate realistic scenarios.”

Number seven worldwide

A few weeks after the exams, Ralph received a surprising mail from the EC-Council. Ralph: “The mail explained that the EC-Council keeps the candidates’ scores on a leaderboard. My score and time were good enough to be put on the board. I’m now in seventh place worldwide! That was an awesome feeling, for sure. Now I know my skills are good.”

A great start

Ralph: “Currently, I’m working on various projects for Qualogy Caribbean. They are all related to improving the cyber security. In addition, I regularly carry out pentests for applications. I would love to further my education and obtain more certificates. The CEH certificate is a great start.”
